DepartmentOFFICE OF THE UNIVERSITY CONTR (UA-CTRO-IUBLA)Department InformationThe Office of the University Controller (UCO) provides leadership and guidance for financial compliance, systems and services at Indiana University. While our department serves all seven IU campuses, we are physically located on the Bloomington Campus.The University Accounting & Reporting Services (UARS) function within UCO provides accounting and consulting services to IU Campuses and Responsibility Centers to mitigate compliance and audit risk. UARS also provides functional resources and accounting expertise to facilitate internal accounting and reporting.Job SummaryThe Senior Accountant (UARS) is tasked with providing functional and accounting oversight for the systems and reporting activities within UARS. This position collaborates with other areas within UCO, as well as the University Budget Office, UITS, and the Campuses, among others, to ensure that standard internal financial reporting is accurate and reliable, and that Kuali financial processing documents have the appropriate document restrictions to minimize compliance and audit risk.Departmental-Specific ResponsibilitiesConsults and serves as accounting oversight for assigned Constituent Reporting Units (CRUs).Supports interim and year-end accounting closing and monitoring in support of the university's consolidated financial reporting and audit requirements.Maintains financial statement object code mapping to ensure standard internal financial statements are in balance and adhering to GAAP/GASB principles.Provides general accounting support and advisory services to the university community through inquires to UARS.Supports the Manager of UARS with maintenance of the University's Chart of Accounts, as needed.Maintains integrity of financial information presented through analysis of financial statement balancesSupports the Development/enhancement of the university financial systems and reporting tools as both a service to other organizations and as a controlCollaborate with users within UCO, as well as others throughout the university on various reporting toolsMaintains UARS' CRM platform and documentationMaintains functional content for the UCO website and related materialsGeneral ResponsibilitiesApplies Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).Performs more complex accounting assignments requiring advanced professional experience, knowledge, and competency in accounting principle and practices to safeguard the organization's financial resources and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, laws, and reporting requirements.Establishes and maintains accounting policies and controls, fiscal controls, and financial reports.Prepares, reviews, and provides interpretation of complex reports and analyses for manager and officers.Submits recommendations for improved operations.Oversees and assists with specialized accounting assignments such as the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial activity.Provides work leadership to lower-level accounting employees.QualificationsEDUCATIONRequiredBachelor's degree in Accounting, or related fieldWORK EXPERIENCERequired5 years of relevant experienceCombinations of related education and experience may be consideredLICENSES AND CERTIFICATESPreferredCertified Public Accountant (CPA) Indiana license or Indiana license eligibleSKILLSRequiredProficient communication skillsMaintains a high degree of professionalismDemonstrates time management and priority setting skillsDemonstrates a high commitment to qualityPossesses flexibility to work in a fast paced, dynamic environmentSeeks to acquire knowledge in area of specialtyHighly thorough and dependableDemonstrates a high level of accuracy, even under pressurePossesses a high degree of initiativeAbility to influence internal and/or external constituentsAbility to drive multiple projects to successful completionAnalytical ability and a high level of numerical competence.Proficiency in IT and demonstrated skill in using Excel to produce financial reports.Ability to reconcile financial ledgers and process accounts payable/receivable.Organizational skills and ability to manage deadlines.High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
