The cashier must have the knowledge, experience, and customer service skills to assist the patient while also following Student Health Center guidelines for eligibility to be seen, insurance coverage and options for billing the bursar.Department Specific Responsibilities

  • Assists patients with all aspects of registration and check-out.
  • Verifies patients' eligibility, student status/demographics.
  • Schedules appointments.
  • Accepts payments.
  • Maintains a secure cash drawer.
  • Sets up accounts to bill insurance.
  • Liaises between staff, patients and parents.General Responsibilities
    • Provides administrative support to a department or group of professionals, exercising confidentiality, tact and diplomacy.
    • Utilizes business software applications to prepare correspondence, reports, presentations, agendas, minutes, etc.
    • Receives, screens, and directs incoming calls, visitors, mail, and email.
    • Schedules and confirms appointments and meetings.
    • Assists the development and implementation of administrative standards, policies and practices for the organization.QualificationsEDUCATIONRequired
      • High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)WORK EXPERIENCEPreferred
        • 1 year of office experience/cash handling experienceSKILLSRequired
          • Excellent organizational skills
          • Strong verbal communication and listening skills
          • Effective interpersonal skills
          • Maintains a high degree of professionalism
          • Demonstrates ability to maintain confidential informationPreferred
            • Familiarity with medical terminology and health insurance
            • Quick and accurate decision making
            • Ability to learn and work in multiple computer systems with a high degree of accuracy in a fast-paced environment while providing excellent customer service
            • Thorough and dependableWorking Conditions / DemandsThis role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus.
