generations to come.-- We are seeking qualified applicants for a
Senior Civil/Geotechnical Remediation Engineer position; located in
Columbus, OH. The duties will include providing technical
leadership and oversight support in civil and geotechnical
engineering for all phases of remediation projects including
remedial investigations, feasibility studies, preliminary and final
design, and construction quality assurance for remediation
projects. This position will require travel to multiple project
sites. JOB SUMMARY Clients choose to work with Battelle because of

solutions to challenging technical problems. The Environment
Division within the Environment and Agriculture Business Line
conducts research, characterization, and remediation of
environmental contamination, and designs and implements
environmentally sustainable remedial technologies. As a Senior
Engineer Designer (C5592), the selected individual will support
complex and innovative environmental engineering and science
projects to effectively characterize contamination in a wide array
of media, and design and implement remedial systems to treat
contamination. You will be an integral part of our team focused on
providing solutions to clients' remediation challenges. You will
work in cross-disciplinary project teams which may include multiple
engineering and science disciplines, depending on the project
scope. Your coworkers will range from new graduates to those with
30+ years of experience. The diversity created by the combination

challenges through innovation. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide successful technical leadership and oversight support
in civil and geotechnical engineering for all phases of remediation
projects including remedial investigations, feasibility studies,
preliminary and final design, and construction quality assurance
for remediation projects.
- Preparation of technical documents including remedial
investigations for geologic characterization, EE/CAs, feasibility
studies, remedial action work plans, basis of design reports,
engineer's cost estimates and design packages consisting of design
reports, engineering drawings and specifications, and construction
quality assurance reports.
- Analyzes and interprets data collected in the laboratory and/or
field and oversees the development of various reports which may
include geologic laboratory studies, evaluations of remediation
concepts, basis of design, engineering calculations, engineer's
cost estimates, remedial design documents, and proposals related to
environmental project work.
- Serves as Project Engineer or lead author of sections of large
proposals.
- Serves as lead for specific tasks on multiple projects,
functioning to develop and execute remediation projects, including
both government and commercial remedial action projects.
- Coordinates the efforts of technical support staff in the
performance of assigned projects within time and budget
constraints.
- Writing tasks to document basis of design, engineering
calculations, engineer's cost estimates, laboratory findings and
results, including basis of design reports, engineering
specifications, progress reports, final reports, presentations, and
conference/journal articles.
- Business development efforts, including cost estimation and
preparation of white papers and proposals.
- Conceive and develop ideas for innovative research programs and
projects.
- Oversee, mentor and train lower-level staff with a focus on
junior engineers (Engineers in Training).
- Establish and maintain professional relationships with clients
and internal colleagues. Works effectively and collaboratively with
researchers and support staff at varying levels within the
organization.
SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES WILL DEMONSTRATE
- Experience leading and managing tasks that are part of large
projects/programs in the environmental remediation industry with
commercial clients, DoD, and/or EPA.
- Experience with soil, groundwater, surface water, and/or
soil-gas contamination laboratory studies, field investigations,
feasibility studies, design engineering, and construction quality
assurance for remediation projects.
- Preparation of technical documents including EE/CAs,
feasibility studies, remedial action work plans, basis of design
reports, engineer's cost estimates and design packages consisting
of engineering drawings and specifications.
- Ingenuity, creativity, and resourcefulness, including the
development and application of innovative technical principles and
concepts to solve current and future problems in the environmental
remediation industry, including emerging contaminants.
- Technical thought leadership and ability to identify and
resolve problems associated with the development and implementation
of complex laboratory, remedial design, and/or field projects and
programs.
- Proven ability to both work independently and lead tasks with
minimal oversight.
- Positive attitude and eagerness to take on new and technically
challenging tasks THE FOLLOWING IS REQUIRED
- Master of Science or PhD in civil, geotechnical, or
environmental engineering with experience in successful completion
of civil/geotechnical remediation design on multiple projects and
experience with feasibility studies and remedial alternative
evaluations.--
- Demonstrated experience preparing technical documents including
EE/CAs, feasibility studies, remedial action work plans, basis of
design reports, engineer's cost estimates and design packages
consisting of engineering drawings and specifications.
- Registered Professional Engineer (PE).
- Training: 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER and current 8-hour annual
refresher certification.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal
skills.
- Ability to work in the office, laboratory, and/or field
setting. Travel to out-of-state project locations and conferences
is required. THE FOLLOWING IS DESIRED
- 8-hour HAZWOPER supervisor
- 30-Hour Construction Safety Training
- Cold regions engineering certification
- Project Management Professional (PMP).
- Demonstrated expertise with innovative technologies and/or
emerging contaminants.
- Established reputation for their research initiatives, as
evidenced by peer-reviewed publications, participation in
professional organizations and national meetings.
- Experience with supporting business development efforts and
