Summary
- Designs electronics for state-of-the-art research
instrumentation, by the means of schematics, layouts and control
systems.
- Consults with faculty, staff, and students on problems
associated with design and construction of research instrumentation
as well as research systems programming.
- Repairs, tests and adjusts instrumentation to ensure optimal
working order, including performing high-level repairs with
extended reversed engineering.
- Communicates with users, such as instructing on the safe
handling of the device in question and explaining the problems and
solutions.QualificationsEDUCATION Required
- Bachelor's degree (preferably in electrical engineering,
electronic engineering, or a related field). WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
- 2 years of electronics design or related experience. Preferred
- 1 year of experience in printed circuit board layout.
- Some experience in electronic repair/modification and/or
control systems is desirable. Combinations of related education and
experience may be considered. SKILLS Required

- Knowledge and use of test bench equipment.
- Understanding and working knowledge of design software and
design programming. Preferred
- Basic understanding of instrumentation commonly used to
implement new designs and successfully repair non-functional
items.
- Experience with smart systems such as human machine interfaces
(HMI), programmable automation and position controllers (PAC).
- Experience and knowledge in power dissipation, RF signals and
optical components.
- Understanding of vacuum systems, interlock systems and
temperatures control systems.
- A basic understanding of instrumentation commonly used in
chemical sciences is desirable to implement new designs and
successfully repair non-functional items. Working Conditions /
DemandsThis role requires the ability to remain in a stationary
position, sit at a computer for prolonged periods as well as the
ability to move about the workplace for long durations. It requires
effective communication, the ability to operate machinery, tools,
and controls. The role requires the ability to position one's self
in low level positions, detect a variety of chemicals and/or gases.
The role requires the ability to move in tight spaces to perform
and complete inspections. The person in this role must be able to
perform the essential functions with or without an
