Position Summary:
The EHS Engineer will implement, maintain and improve upon
established manufacturing safety programs to ensure the attainment
of Toyota's goals relative to Environment, Health Safety
performance. This position is not only accountable for ensuring
compliance with all applicable EHS laws, regulations and standards,
but for driving the overall Toyota safety culture. The EHS Engineer
is responsible for translating and executing Toyota's
environmental, health, and safety strategy, implementing and
improving on site policies and procedures which are consistent with
the Company's core values, collaborating and supporting customer
needs, and championing external efforts to ensure safety and
environmental stewardship in the communities in which Toyota
operates.
Essential Position Duties:
Under general supervision, assists in monitoring and coordinating
environmental health and safety programs, including safety
inspections, accident investigations, and safety training.
- Promote employee health and safety by implementing procedures,
metrics, campaigns and programs to prevent occupational injuries
and illnesses, and enhance the overall site safety culture
resulting in management engagement, employee involvement and the
reduction in unsafe conditions and behaviors.
- Have a thorough understanding of problem-solving and safety
improvement tools and techniques.
- Investigate industrial accidents, injuries, or occupational
diseases to determine causes and preventive measures.
- Compile, analyze, and interpret statistical data related to
occupational illnesses and accidents.
- Evaluate machinery, equipment and their usage for safety and
related risk.
- Prepare and deliver training in areas such as safety
procedures, laws and regulations, hazardous condition monitoring,
and the use of safety equipment.
- Inspects and audits facilities for potential environmental or
safety concerns including industrial hygiene and report findings to
management.
- Develop employee safety programs to align with company
goals.
- Initiate and engage in testing of air quality, noise, and
temperature levels to verify compliance with health and safety
regulations.
- Provide technical advice and guidance on how to handle
health-related problems and make needed changes.
- Understands and ensures compliance with local, state, and
federal regulations pertaining to environmental protection or
occupational health and safety.
- Develop and implement best practices leading to continuous
improvement and creating a winning safety culture.
- Support 5S workplace organization processes in the plant
through direct project involvement and leading by example.
- May be responsible for safe handling and proper disposal of
hazardous materials or bio-waste.Specific Knowledge and Skills:
- Speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative
situations; demonstrate group presentation skills and ability to
conduct meetings.
- Involve the shop associates in problem solving and process
improvement.
- Foster and encourage an atmosphere of responsibility, safety
and pride.
- Comply with all Company policies and procedures.
- Adhere to all applicable safety and environmental standards
(i.e. federal, state, local, etc.)
- Communicates effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and
staff.
- Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe
manner
- Additional duties as assignedEducation Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in related discipline (i.e. Industrial
Hygiene, Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, etc.)
- 3+ years of EHS experience.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Toyota Production System (TPS) and 5S experience
desirable.
- Professional EHS Certifications is a plus (i.e. ASP, CSP, CIH,
etc.).
- Knowledge of basic business software programs, such as
Microsoft Office Suite.
