This position will be located in Columbus, OH. JOB SUMMARY Battelle's Director of Benefits is responsible for strategy and execution of plan administration and accounting for Battelle's employee benefit program consisting of medical, dental, savings (401(k)), pension, non-qualified retirement, and other ancillary programs. The Director will develop and design recommendations to maintain competitive positioning and create a positive impact to the wellbeing of our employees. Responsibilities include but are not limited to fringe/labor rate determination, allocation of costs, reconciliation of eligibility and employee contributions, VEBA trust accounting, retirement plan (pension and 401(k)) accounting and administration, coordinating external auditors, rabbi trust accounting, and benefits financial reporting for corporate and plan financials. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan Administration - Direct the administration of benefits programs and services. Communicate and make recommendations to senior leaders on benefits, claims and enrollment processing and procedures.
  • Program Management - Design, develop and implement cost-efficient benefit programs and strategies that align with Battelle's business objectives, are competitive in the marketplace and address employee needs; monitor external trends and opportunities to shape future health and welfare programs.--
  • Plan Compliance - Oversee the compliance, reporting and governance of health and welfare benefit plans in accordance with ERISA, DOL and other regulatory agencies and in accordance with internal controls and audit requirements.
    • Monitor ongoing and developing benefits legislation and public policy direction to ensure plan compliance with all laws and regulations in jurisdictions where Battelle operates.--
    • Partner with internal and external legal teams to ensure policies and procedures are compliant with current regulatory requirements; assist in preparation of plan reports and filings as required by government agencies, and update plans accordingly.--
    • Manage the coordination of actuarial valuations and support annual required controlled group non-discrimination testing.
    • Fringe - Develop and manage the budget for the fringe rate charged to customers of Battelle Corporate Operations (BCO) and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNWD) divisions of Battelle and related variance analysis.--
    • Vendor Selection and Management - Lead vendor evaluation and selection process; ensure vendor is held accountable for performance targets and addresses delivery issues. THE FOLLOWING IS REQUIRED
      • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Accounting or Business Administration; 10+ years of relevant experience with 5+ years in a leadership capacity; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
      • Prior experience in administering group insurance programs and pension accounting
      • Demonstrate ability to articulate and influence strategy and align with key stakeholders and proven experience building consensus with excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills--
      • Must have strong working knowledge of Federal benefits regulations (ERISA), Internal Revenue Code (IRC), Department of Labor (DOL) and other regulatory agencies that impact Battelle's benefit programs.--
      • Possess strong financial acumen and quantitative skills and the ability to use data analysis to proactively derive insights and support fact-based decision making--
      • Proven ability to partner and influence across HR and with business leaders, build relationships, collaborate and influence outcomes--
      • Capable of solving complex issues and generating alternative solutions through rigorous qualitative and quantitative analysis-- THE FOLLOWING IS DESIRED
        • Prior M&A-related benefit integration/assimilation experience--
        • Advanced certification (CEBS, SHRM)--
        • Experience with government contracting and associated regulations under Federal Acquisition Regulation and Cost Accounting Standards
