Job Description:
Director of Marketing and Public Relations The Columbus Museum
seeks a Director of Marketing and Public Relations to provide
leadership in developing, managing, and conveying the Museum's
identity and mission through multimedia channels. This position is
responsible for overseeing the Museum's brand-including its
upcoming redesign-and for messaging, and internal and external
communication strategies. The Director of Marketing and Public
Relations generates interest and excitement about The Columbus
Museum through accurate and widespread media coverage of the
Museum's work, including programs and exhibitions. The Director of
Marketing and Public Relations is an enthusiastic advocate for the
Museum and serves as the leading spokesperson to the media and
broader community about the Museum. The position is responsible for
creating, gathering, and editing the content for publications,
including the quarterly membership newsletter The Muse, and must
collaborate and communicate with all departments. The Director of
Marketing and Public Relations leads the online and traditional
media strategies (messaging, implementation, and analysis). The
position is part of the senior management team and heads a
department that includes a full-time graphic designer and a
part-time marketing and public relations coordinator. Major Duties
and Responsibilities -- Develops and coordinates ongoing publicity
and media relations strategy to present a positive, professional
and consistent image to Museum stakeholders, the industry and the
general public.-- -- Maintains and improves media contacts and
outreach functions. Responds to press inquiries, arranging
interviews, developing story lines and articles as appropriate.
Represents the Museum as spokesperson in typical and crisis
situations. -- Communicates with the Museum's external marketing
and PR consultants and oversees the consultants' execution of the
Museum's marketing and communications initiatives to drive public
engagement. -- Manages the department, including staff (graphic
designer and marketing and public relations coordinator) and
creates and implements the department's budget. -- Maintains the
Museum's website to include online purchase, giving capabilities
and event registration. -- Leverages subject matter expertise of
latest communication trends to ensure The Columbus Museum is always
on the leading edge of best practices. -- Provides all content and
project management for all Museum publications to insure a smooth
transition to print or exhibition of this information.-- --
Conducts final editing of all Museum publications for style,
content and grammar and certifies that these are ready for printing
and other media venues. -- Works interdepartmentally to direct all
paid and unpaid advertising to maximize the advertising budget with
the most diverse audiences for any given event or program.
Collaborates with other departments to determine budgets for
project-specific advertising. -- Develops and manages internal
style guides, publication tools, and branding. -- Co-chairs the
Museum's Advancement Committee along with the Director of the
Development Department for strategic planning and engagement, and
to present key performance indicators (KPIs) of marketing and
promotional efforts; also works with Development to maintain and
generate interest in membership and Affiliate Groups (Young Art
Patrons, Alma Thomas Society) -- Maintains and takes a leadership
role in developing working relationships with other arts
organizations; represents the Museum with the Cultural Arts
Alliance marketing committee on a regular basis. -- Performs tasks
outside the job description if needed. Knowledge and Skills
Required Must have five or more years of experience in marketing
and public relations; experience with museums or other nonprofit
organizations a plus. Exceptional writing, editing, and oral
communication skills and ability to manage publications. Advanced
technical skills required. Experience in developing and managing
marketing and branding plans. Ability to meet multiple deadlines is
essential. Strong interpersonal skills, with a capacity to work
collaboratively with colleagues at all levels. Conforms to the
highest professional standards in achieving results. Work is
complete, accurate, on time, and cost effective. Education
Bachelor's Degree required, preferably in communications,
marketing, public relations, or related field. By May 1, submit a
