The Indiana University Bloomington Walter Center for Career
Achievement (WCCA), a division of the newly established Office of
Academic Engagement and Student Experience, provides top-quality
career education programming services to Indiana University College
of Arts and Sciences students to help them transfer their diverse
passions and talents into successful rewarding careers. The Senior
Associate Director for External Relations position will advance
this mission by co-leading a team of professionals charged with
developing and executing employer outreach, alumni engagement,
recruitment, and relationship management strategies that produce
high quality immersive experiences, connections and full-time job
and internship opportunities for students in the College of Arts
and Sciences.
The College of Arts and Sciences is the largest academic unit at
Indiana University Bloomington. It is composed of 40+ departments,
50+ Centers, Programs, and Institutes, while also including the
Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture and Design, the Hamilton Lugar
School of Global and International Studies, and The Media
School.
Faculty in the College teach over 50% of the Indiana University
(Bloomington) credit hours and the College occupies about 1.3
million square feet of space in 80+ buildings on the Bloomington
campus.

Job Summary
Department Specific Responsibilities
- Serves as a member of the WCCA senior leadership team, guiding
WCCA strategic initiatives, technology solutions, student services,
campus relationships, and other career services areas.
- Oversees day-to-day operations of WCCA, and fills proxy role of
Directors in key meetings, in the absence of the Directors.
- Assists in hiring, training evaluating, and developing a team
of external relations professionals charged with outreach,
recruitment and relationship management strategies that produce
high-quality, full-time and internship opportunities for students
in the Core College of Arts and Sciences, which serves three
academic units (Arts and Humanities, Natural and Mathematical
Sciences, Social and Historical Sciences).
- Co-Leads regularly scheduled external relations team meetings
where College-wide external relations strategy is discussed.
- Ensures that College employer relations and alumni activities
are highly coordinated, strategic, and efficient. Directs the
day-to day efforts of external relations staff in the Core
College's constituent divisions and units.
- Sets relevant strategy, identifies target outreach and
engagement goals, evaluates team success and implements continual
improvement measures.
- Develops standard operation procedures associated with use of
the Handshake Career Services Management system and trains external
relations staff on appropriate relationship management
documentation and tracking procedures. Likewise, is familiar with
standard operating procedures of the Walter Center Success Network
and can engage in appropriate networking activities with our alumni
and help train staff and coordinate WCSN (or similar networking
platforms) activities.
- Ensures accurate records of external relations contacts,
outreach efforts, and student engagement are maintained.
- Develops and executes outreach, recruitment and relationship
management strategies that produce high-quality internship and full
time job opportunities for students in the Core College of Arts and
Sciences.
- Develops new relationships and ensures that WCCA program and
services meet and exceed external partner expectations.
- Communicates information on available recruiting programs and
services to current and prospective employer contacts and assists
employers in developing recruitment strategies that help them
connect with qualified students.
- Creates opportunities for current students to connect with
prospective employers and alumni by securing external stakeholder
involvement in on- and off-campus networking events, including
information sessions, career-related workshops, receptions, and
site visits.
- Collaborates with College alumni relations and advancement
staff to ensure employer partner-related outreach is highly
coordinated and in-line with larger College development
priorities.
- Builds strong relationships with IU Core College departmental
chairs, program directors, and directors of undergraduate studies
that produce meaningful and effective career development
opportunities for students.
- Meets with faculty on a regular basis to present information on
relevant employer relations and development efforts.
- Collaborates with employer relations and alumni relations
professionals from across campus to shape campus recruitment
policies and alumni engagement.
- Works within the AESE to insure relevant marketing efforts,
data collection and cross team support happens.
- Plans collaborative recruitment programs and events and
contributes to the execution, expansion, and quality improvement of
the on-campus recruitment experience as a member of the campus
Employer Relations Committee.
- Develops a strategy with the Director of Immersive Experiences
and members of the College of Arts and Sciences External Relations
Team to implement a well-integrated, collaborative approach to
meeting the employment needs of College of Arts and Sciences
students.
- Partners with WCCA staff to identify and execute collaborative
programs and initiatives that provide, highly-coordinated and
collaborative student support services, which create a seamless
experience for College of Arts and Sciences students that span
career education, recruitment, orientation, academic advising,
career services and alumni relations. General Responsibilities
- Provides day-to-day operational management of employer
relations staff.
- Establishes short-term operational objectives.
- Identifies operational issues and/or areas of improvement and
implements solutions to improve processes and/or operational
efficiency.
- Analyzes, monitors, and evaluates performance of assigned
staff; establishes work priorities, conducts performance reviews,
and provides corrective action as needed.
- Ensures adequate staffing and effective scheduling;
participates and informs employment decisions for assigned
staff.
- Provides direct supervision and oversight of assigned staff and
activities; impacts, and is held accountable for, the performance
of team and/or assigned staff.
- Ensures and provides training to assigned staff to improve
employer relations operations; researches and identifies
development opportunities for assigned staff.
- Researches and stays up-to-date on new industry employer
relations standards, best practices, and emerging technology; keeps
next-level leader(s) informed of trends as well as significant
problems. Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in business, human resources, or related

Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to
operate a computer and other standard office productivity
equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods
of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The
