JOB SUMMARY
The Executive Director (ED) is the primary leader of the organization, setting the tone and strategic vision of Pets Alive.
REPORTS TO
The Board of Directors but is not accountable to individual Board members in day-to-day operations.
WORK HOURS
Full time during hours of operation.Overtime as required to achieve goals.
WAGE/HOUR STATUS
$70-75k
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Strategic Leadership and Team Management


  • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan to advance the organization's mission and objectives.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain a high-performing team of staff and volunteers, providing mentorship and professional development opportunities.
  • Foster a supportive, inclusive, and collaborative work environment that encourages growth and development.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the organization.

    2.Operations and Financial Management

    • Oversees the operations in coordination with other members of management, ensuring that operations are running in a streamlined and productive manner.
    • Serves as direct supervisor of Pets Alive Operations Director, clinic support staff, and accountant. Works with staff accountant to ensure that the organization has in place sound risk management and internal controls.
    • Establishes and works within an annual budget while possessing basic knowledge of financial statements and the ability to monitor and understand financial investment portfolios.
    • Ensure that Pets Alive has adequate insurance coverage, and accounting, payroll and cash management systems.Maintains compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements from state and federal laws.

      3.Fundraising and Resource Development

      • Works with the Board to create and effectively implement an annual fundraising plan that will meet the immediate and long-term fundraising needs of the organization
      • Works to research and pursue grant-related opportunities and prepare grant applications.
      • Leads donor outreach and retention efforts.

        4.Community Engagement and Advocacy

        • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including donors, foundations, and community partners
        • Serve as the organization's primary spokesperson, representing the organization to the media, public, and key stakeholders.
        • Develop and implement strategic communications plans to raise awareness about the organization and its impact on animal welfare.
        • Builds relationships with staff, volunteers, Board members, city and county officials, local businesses, other community agencies/nonprofits, veterinary associations, the media, and other animal welfare organizations

          JOB PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
          Ability to produce high-quality work in a timely manner.

          Ability to communicate clearly and resolve disputes professionally.
          Ability to lead fundraising activities and community outreach programs.

          Ability to work independently and follow instructions.
          Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
          REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
          Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education/experience is required.
          Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in a leadership role.
          Successful completion of coursework or experience in fundraising principles and programs.
          Excellent communication, public speaking, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire diverse audiences.
          Passion for animal welfare and commitment to the organization's mission and values.
          Prior experience in a leadership role, working with a board, and overseeing and managing budgets.
          Experience in the non-profit sector is highly desirable.
