DepartmentPHYSICS (BL-PHYS-IUBLA)Department InformationThe Department of Physics is a medium-sized department in the College of Arts and Sciences (The College), composed of 38 professors, about 100 graduate students, and an undergraduate Physics major population that has doubled in number in the past five years. We have a strong academic program offering undergraduate degrees (B.A., B.Sc.) and graduate degrees (Ph.D., M.A.T., M.S.). Our world-class faculty strives to develop a strong teaching and research environment, and the positive atmosphere in our department fosters learning and research in several disciplines of physics. We currently have nationally ranked groups carrying out research in particle physics, nuclear physics, astrophysics, cosmology, condensed matter physics and material science, biophysics, and accelerator physics. Research activities are also channeled via institutes and centers such as the Biocomplexity Institute, the Nuclear Theory Center, the Center for Spacetime Symmetries, and the Center for Exploration of Energy and Matter (CEEM), housed at the Integrated Science and Technology Hall (ISAT, formerly the IU Cyclotron Facility). Job SummaryHelps set up, take down and maintain the first-year physics labs.Assists with demonstrations and participate in outreach activities, especially the Science Fest and State Science Olympiad.May also be called upon to do other tasks in the department including, but not limited to: basic cleaning, dusting, trash removal etc., assist staff with moving furniture and equipment, assist in developing new labs and demos.This position has the potential to be a work-study position.QualificationsEDUCATIONRequired Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University. Preferred Completion of P222.2 years of coursework remaining.SKILLSMechanical and electrical aptitudes. Attention to detail.Working Conditions / DemandsThis position will work in a lab setting. Ability to work on schedule.Work LocationBloomington, Indiana.Physics labs in Swain West.Advertised Salary$10.15 per hour.Work HoursThis position will work a minimum of 10 hours per week. Availability on Wednesday evenings (typically 4:30 pm to 8:30 pm) and a minimum of 4 hours during the workday on Friday is expected. Depending on experience and skills additional hours up to 29 hours per week may be available. Other weekday hours can be arranged to fit your schedule.
