Acute Registered Nurse (In-Patient Dialysis RN) - Training Available DaVita is seeking a Hospital Services (Acute) Registered Nurse to serve our patients at IU Health - Bloomington. RNs in this role work autonomously alongside the hospital staff to assess, troubleshoot, and make sound decisions for the critically ill patients. This position will work a full-time day shift; scheduled 3-4 days a week, rotating every other weekend, 7:00AM start time. Expected to volunteer to take call, when night shift RN takes PTO. Dialysis Experience is NOT required. What to Expect 1:1 Patient Care. Deliver acute hemodialysis to in-patients with chronic kidney disease, as well as patients with acute kidney injury (AKI) and transplant. Average Patient to Nurse Ratio is 2:1 or 1:1. Patient education. Whether this is the first or a blip in their chronic treatment, our RNs are experts in educating our patients and families. Specialized, complex care. RNs deliver care to patients who are often dealing with multiple co-morbidities and/or acute conditions which require unique treatment plans and the ability to leverage a broad range of nursing skills and knowledge. Not just hemodialysis. Acute RNs may deliver nephrology care across multiple renal therapies: peritoneal, continuous renal replacement and apheresis. Expect the unexpected. When you walk in the door each day you don't know what patients you might have, their condition, when you will get them or when you will be done for the day. Autonomy in a Hospital Setting. Deliver dialysis to patients at a particular hospital or group of hospitals and become an integral part of their team and ours. As a teammate in an acute setting you work on your own almost all of the time. Each day you assess, troubleshoot, and make sound decisions for critical patients. Our Hospital Services group performs 1.1M treatments annually. Schedule. No two days are ever the same for an acute dialysis nurse - long days and on call are required. Schedules vary by hospital system. For this role expect to know your weekly schedule in advance, but your daily schedule may change depending on patient needs. Must be in commutable distance based on on-call requirements. The Gold Seal. At all times, the Hospital and the patient's physician retain ultimate authority over and responsibility for each patient's care and treatment. This position reports to the Facility Administrator. Plans and provides patient care for the pediatric, adult and geriatric patients in the hospital in accordance with physician orders, DaVita policy and procedures as well as hospital policy and procedures Provides quality direct patient care and renal replacement therapies independently, in a professional, considerate and respectful manner Supervises and directs patient care of other teammates in a treatment area that may or may not be licensed Interacts and communicates with hospital partners in a collaborative, respectful manner, gives pre/post treatment report through appropriate reporting process to hospital primary RN/Staff Documents patients' physical assessment, vital signs, treatment reviews and observations in patient medical records and brings issues to the attention of the physician and primary nurse Documents, evaluates and implements dialysis orders Analyzes patient assessments, dialysis orders, laboratory results and, discusses issues with the nephrologist Communicates emergencies, patient life-threatening complications and related incidents to supervisor, hospital staff, and the patient's physician Provides initiation and discontinuation of the prescribed renal replacement therapy, including but not limited to formulating a plan per physician orders, verifying safety measures are in place and complied with, administering medications or other appropriate treatments, and documenting all activity appropriately on the DaVita approved flow sheet or hospital EMR Demonstrates the ability to transfer skill set and work in other Hospital settings when required Attends Hospital orientation, homeroom meetings, and mandatory in-services as required Verifies accurate charges and documentation are submitted in a timely manner Enters ACOI Data accurate and in a timely manner Demonstrates the ability to learn and perform modalities (hemodialysis, PD, CRRT, Apheresis, Pediatric ) Other duties as assigned o A facility may be selected to participate in research study(ies) under the guidance of DaVita Clinical Research. Any clinical or administrative duty required by the study protocol, whic Acute RN I Requirements Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state where practicing Associates Degree in Nursing (A.D.N) from accredited school of nursing; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N); three-year diploma from accredited diploma program may be substituted for nursing degree At least 1 year RN experience; medical/surgical (Med/Surg), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Critical Care Unit (CCU), and/or Emergency Room (ER) Willingness to work mandatory overtime required due to the nature of the acute treatment you are providing, with little or no notice Flexibility to travel to multiple hospitals within a given area Experience assessing, trouble shooting and making sound recommendations in stressful situations Physical Requirement: nurses often have to push/pull large hemodialysis machines around the hospital with little or no assistance Acute RN I Bonus Experience Hemodialysis nursing experience in an acute or chronic setting Certified Nephrology Nurse (CNN), Certified Dialysis Nurse (CDN) and/or Certified Hemodialysis Nurse (CHN) Nurses: if this isn't the job for you, perhaps you have a friend who would be a perfect fit.
