Day to day as a Lifeguard As a Seasonal Lifeguard at the Jewish Community Center of Louisville, you will play a crucial role in maintaining a safe and enjoyable swimming environment for our members. Daily expectations include monitoring pool activities, enforcing safety regulations, and providing assistance to swimmers as needed. You will also be responsible for performing routine safety checks and ensuring that the pool area is clean and well-maintained. Your schedule will typically involve afternoons and evenings, with a requirement to work at least one weekday to earn a weekend shift. Weekend shifts provide an excellent opportunity for added hours and greater engagement with community members, as well as a pay bonus. To thrive as a Seasonal Lifeguard at the Jewish Community Center of Louisville, you will need a combination of technical skills and personal attributes. First and foremost, you must possess valid CPR and First Aid certifications, along with a Lifeguarding certification, preferably from the Red Cross. These qualifications ensure that you are equipped to handle emergencies and provide immediate assistance when necessary. In addition to these certifications, strong communication skills are essential, as you'll be interacting with swimmers of various ages and backgrounds. The ability to remain calm under pressure will help you manage any situations that arise effectively. Attention to detail is critical for maintaining safety protocols and ensuring a secure environment. Lastly, a positive attitude and a strong commitment to teamwork will contribute to a supportive atmosphere that enhances the experience for everyone involved. Knowledge and skills required for the position are: Lifeguard Responsibilities Maintain constant surveillance of the pool areas. Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately. Knows, understands, and consistently applies and communicates pool rules and guidelines Maintains current certifications required by The Trager Family JCC and the local Health Department. Perform chemical testing as required. Attends all staff meetings as required by the Aquatics Director and the Assistant Aquatic Director.
