The program targets applications from Indiana University student populations that are traditionally under-represented in information technology professions and places them in high quality internships where they are mentored by top professionals and gain first-hand experience in their field. Interns are compensated competitively and have the ability to work flexible hours to accommodate class schedules.The Assistive Technology and Accessibility Center (ATAC) is looking for individuals eager to gain valuable experience evaluating learning tools and creating inclusive digital active learning experiences. This is a fantastic opportunity for students in User Experience, Human Computer Interaction, or Instructional Design disciplines to gain experience with learning technologies, digital accessibility, and accessibility compliance.Job Summary

  • Collaborates with students, faculty, and staff on digital accessibility projects.
  • Assists design teams with accessibility reviews of IU's Programs of Scale and other IU Online initiatives.
  • Works with faculty and graduate assistants on providing accommodations to students.
  • Teams up with other members of the ATAC to present on the latest assistive technology and digital accessibility topics at IU's Statewide Information Technology Conference during the Spring 2025 semester.QualificationsEDUCATION Required
    • Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University. Preferred
      • Currently enrolled in Information Technology, Informatics, or other computing/engineering field major or minor. SKILLS Required
        • Strong written and verbal communication and listening skills.
        • Maintains a high degree of professionalism.
        • A background in educational technology, instructional design, User Experience (UX) Design, Human Computer Interaction (HCI), or User Interface (UI) Design.
        • Basic knowledge of HTML and Microsoft 365 tools.
        • Ability to write effective copy, instructional text, and audio scripts/video scripts.
        • Ability to demonstrate attention to detail in all deliverables and communications.
        • Ability to research, analyze, and synthesize information/data, and provide recommendations for designing learning solutions.
        • Personable and enjoy working in a team environment.
        • Ability to work effectively and efficiently with a minimum of supervision. Working Conditions / DemandsThis role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.Additional InformationInterns will participate in a 1 week training program, followed by a 14-week field experience evaluating learning tools.Specifically, interns will:
          • Receive training on:
            • The basics of digital accessibility and how individuals with disabilities use information technology.
            • How to create digital inclusive content.
            • How to use various accessibility review tools.
