SummaryDrives overall personal lines performance within assigned
geography. Leads the field based and customer-facing Claims
organization. Works collaboratively with Personal Lines leadership
and other stakeholders to ensure effective and efficient claims /
CAT service across the company. Partners with regional leaders to
ensure effective customer and agent relationships. Executes field
claims processes, concepts, practices, and procedures. In addition,
partners closely with all functional leaders (Product, Sales,
Underwriting, Services, RVP, and Quality) and the entire Nationwide
company in order to achieve business goals and objectives. The
position requires expertise in interpersonal savvy, business acumen
skills, and platform skills in an effort to create and communicate
business strategies and tactics needed to succeed in the insurance
marketplace. Job Description Reports To: VP, Claims Operations -
Field. Key Responsibilities: 1. Establish the environment for
cross-claims coordination by driving the importance of coordination
through the Claims Directors down to the unit level. Resolves
claims handling issues that involve multiple specialties.2. In
conjunction with VP Claims Ops - Field, Regional VP(s) and staff
Claims leadership, agrees to claims initiatives and coordinates
cross-functional linkages at geographic level. This includes the
creation of goals, claims performance monitoring, ensuring regular
compliance, communications, collaboration on people development,
and managing legislative agenda.3. Responsible for executing the
claims process consistently across all specialties and locations,
as well as coordinating efforts with regional operations, sales,
underwriting, quality, medical, training, claims legal, recovery,
special investigation, claims technical, and other claims staff
support functions.4. Directs leaders and associates including:
performance management, salary planning and administration,
training and development, workflow and organizational planning,
hiring and placement, and disciplinary actions. Breadth Across
Enterprise: This position provides overall Zone level claims
leadership and claims technical support (personal lines division)
for multiple product lines. Expertise is required in the functional
area of casualty, material damage, property and personal injury
protection for all Nationwide companies and all distribution
channels (exclusive, independent, direct). This position acts as
the top P&C Claims executive in the assigned Zone and is
responsible for the planning, direction, implementation, and
monitoring of all claims activities and operations of that Zone.
Duties include the review and implementation of best practices
across all claims disciplines, making quality decisions on
personnel management, budgeting, financial responsibility,
quality/internal controls, and management reporting. This position
reviews and provides suggested product changes to Product and
Underwriting in order to enhance product/sales offerings and to
eliminate market place problems that are identified. Financial
Responsibility & Scope: This role is directly responsible for Zone
level development and implementation of programs, objectives and
procedures that control loss adjustment expense, in Finance in the
development and implementation of the claim zone operating budget
and provides strategic leadership and oversight of the budgeting
process. Responsible for annual claims costs for the zone and
manages all loss and expense costs for all products. Has matrix
responsibility for personal lines contingent liability program.
Leadership Accountability: Developing Strategy: Provides executive
leadership for claims handling policy and programs. Develops
strategic direction for the improvement of a Claims Zone service
delivery. Develops and implements appropriate staffing strategies
to reflect Claims Zone business needs. Providing Input on Strategic
Direction: Works closely with the VP, Claims Ops - Field and RVP(s)
in the planning, development, implementation and monitoring of all
claims programs across personal lines. Assists the technical office
with setting strategic direction for the improvement of all claims
technical areas. Leads claims innovation process to continuously
drive improved performance. Executing Strategy: The position is
responsible for executing on all claims strategies including
strategic planning, customer satisfaction, regulatory compliance,
and quality control. Responsible for executing claims strategies
consistently across all specialties and locations, as well as
coordinating efforts with regional operations, sales, underwriting,
quality, medical, training, claims legal, recovery, special
investigation, claims technical, and other claims staff support
functions. Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures for
claims handling as well as proper servicing and settlement of
claims. Team Composition: The total FTE reporting to this position
depends on the scope of a particular Claims Zone but can be as high
as 800 FTE. People leaders and individual contributors directly and
indirectly report to this position. Direct reports normally include
Claims Directors, Associate Claims Directors, an administrative
assistant and possibly other support staff. Indirect reports may
include Associate Claims Directors, Claims Managers, Claims
Technical Managers, Claims specialists, business information
support, Claims training support, and other administrative support
staff. Typical Skills and Experiences:
Education/Certification/Licenses-Education: BS/BA. MBA or other
post graduate degree strongly preferred. Certifications/Licenses:
Relevant state licenses required. Professional designation or
claims specific certifications preferred (CPCU).
Experience/Skills-Experience: Ten years or more in
property/casualty field technical claims operations, including at
least five years in claims management. Claims staff experience
preferred. Skills: In addition to extensive claims knowledge, this
position should have a well-rounded understanding in the areas of
underwriting, sales, marketing, product management, actuarial, and
workflow analysis. Essential skills include: superior
organizational and time management, conflict resolution, change
management, verbal and written communication, and financial
reporting. Knowledge: Requires a strong knowledge of material
damage, property damage and casualty/bodily injury technical claims
operations, procedures and claims performance strategies,
day-to-day claims operations, as well as claims best practices.
Also requires extensive knowledge of state operations and
cross-functional initiatives.Other criteria, including leadership
skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.Staffing
exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager's
leader and HR Business Partner. Job Conditions: Overtime
