Summary:

The Hershey Company Robinson plant is a non-union plant producing products such as PayDay, Heath, Skor, Milk Duds, Whoppers & Reese's Pieces in a high-speed complex environment.

The Operations Planning, Scheduling and Warehouse Business Unit Leader is responsible for providing leadership across shifts and area of responsibility. Directly manages all daily activities and long-term objectives focused on detailed production scheduling, material planning and warehouse functions for the plant to ensure development and execution of plans that meet the organization's service objectives at the lowest delivered cost. Responsible for plant and company goals by providing proactive, efficient, and reliable leadership for all shifts in a seven-day working environment.

Independently leads teams to plan and execute projects to eliminate the root cause of manufacturing concerns. Independently executes projects of high complexity, which have a great impact on the company's current and/or future business needs. Projects may be of complex nature relating to equipment or people.

Responsibilities include financial planning, as well as directing and managing the activities of hourly production personnel while safely and effectively meeting the needs of the departments/areas in the plant. Additionally, the manager is responsible for adhering to regulatory compliance requirements, company/plant policies, procedures, and rules in responsibility.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and participate during problem-solving across areas, department, or shifts. Implement recommendations and solutions. These initiatives can involve people, product, or equipment issues.
  • Drive and implement change & key metrics to optimize systems and processes for the Plant Warehouse and Supply Chain Network.
  • Coordinate, organize and deliver communication activities, regarding objectives, results and plans within the department and all other plant functions to assure total seamless operation. Make necessary judgment calls on specific goal alignment to achieve manufacturing excellence.
  • Manage staff of professionals in performing the scheduling and material planning functions for the plant. Establish and ensure implementation of effective performance management plans consistent with the organization's objectives and the individual's personal goals and development needs.
  • Ensure that all aspects of SAP are properly implemented and utilized. Analyze data, lead initiatives to change direction based on outcomes. Responsible for execution of projects plant wide.
  • Provide vision and leadership to champion initiatives, drive, and implement change to optimize the business focusing on safety, quality, and costs.
  • Responsible for determining appropriate delegation of assignments, following up and taking ownership of the delegated assignments.
  • Analyze and evaluate relevant business information to make critical decisions which may impact bottom line results. This analysis typically contains components of manufacturing costs, inventory carry cost and raw material/packaging material pricing which ultimately impacts item profitability. The decisions can affect plant-line loading and labor planning.
  • Support and maintain cycle count accuracy and sustain inventory levels of plant materials (raw, packaging, and work-in-process) and packaging materials price structure, etc.
  • Ensure effective and timely approach to evaluate and address upstream resource impact of Master Production Schedule. Work collaboratively with the master scheduling group (S&OP) in resolving conflicts and assessing the tradeoffs to optimize performance in both delivery and cost.
  • Support plant manufacturing management in effectively responding to unexpected supply/operations related constraints and/or in controlling costs associated with supply/operations related challenges.
  • Participate in developing cross-functional process improvement initiatives that involve the scheduling aspect of manufacturing with a focus on increasing flexibility and customer responsiveness while driving down overall supply chain costs.
  • Communicate business performance and related opportunities to team and management. This includes preparing written reports, as well as developing budgets, salary planning, and maintaining performance management documentation.
  • Oversees the annual budget preparation, directing the implementation and maintaining strong budgetary control of direct, indirect and unit costs.
  • Establishes and plans for all training that will ensure all members of the department are aligned with company, plant, and department objectives. Lead and maintain the team as a world-class organization.
  • Establishes, monitors, and controls the proper implementation and administration of all plant and department procedures. Ensures execution of food safety and food quality systems. Provides the necessary resources for maintenance and continuous improvement of these systems.
  • Maintains the plant fork truck fleet, plant transportation equipment, exterior raw material storage units and internal warehouse storage units.

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform major duties/responsibilities:

  • Ability to understand connections between the components of the Supply Chain and how it impacts the company's success
  • Knowledge of supply chain management principles, with particular focus on production and inventory management disciplines
  • Ability to inspire and provide leadership to broad and diverse workforce team, including professional and hourly reports
  • Proven ability to positively motivate others and deliver business results with a high level of urgency
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to demonstrate analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills in a high-speed manufacturing system
  • Budget creation and application of cost control skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment
  • Willingness to consider future assignments within and outside of manufacturing and/or to relocate within The Hershey Company to broaden your experience, develop your career, and to fill critical business needs

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or another relevant field preferred.
  • Relevant professional certifications such as Project Management (PMP), are a plus
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in manufacturing or distribution/logistics experience preferred
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a Leadership role strongly preferred
  • Minimum 5 years' experience managing direct reports (including preparing/conducting performance reviews, career development planning, hiring & terminating) strongly preferred
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite required
  • Experience with SAP and/or JDA preferred
  • Manufacturing experience in the consumer-packaged goods industry with particular focus on production planning/scheduling and materials management disciplines preferred.
