DepartmentENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH & SAFETY (UA-ENHS-IUBLA)Job
Summary
- Provides direct supervision and oversight of assigned staff and
activities; impacts, and is held accountable for, the performance
of team and/or assigned staff.
- Conducts field inspection of renovation and demolition projects
to ensure compliance with existing asbestos standards, regulations,
and university policies/procedures/plans/guides.
- Reviews sampling results (area, personal, and bulk sampling)
and act accordingly.
- Ensures that 3rd party monitors are engaged and has proper
oversight when abatement is performed by outside contractors.
- Provides day-to-day operational management of remediation
support staff.
- Identifies operational issues and/or areas of improvement and
implements solutions to improve processes and/or operational
efficiency.
- Analyzes, monitors, and evaluates performance of assigned
staff; establishes work priorities, conducts performance reviews,
and provides corrective action as needed.
- Develop and implement compliance measures to ensure employee
exposure levels are eliminated/minimized and building occupant
safety is maintained. Create and maintain asbestos compliance
guidance/specification documents.
- Reviews and evaluates regulations pertaining to asbestos.
- Attends renovation and demolition project meetings. Serves as
technical resource for asbestos compliance. QualificationsEDUCATION
Required
- Bachelor's degree (preferably in environmental health and
safety or a related field). WORK EXPERIENCE Required
- 5 years of abatement or related experience. Combinations of
related education and experience may be considered. LICENSES AND
CERTIFICATES Required
- Possess a valid driver's license with the ability to be insured
by Indiana University.
- Certified as Asbestos Building Inspector by state of Indiana
upon hire. Preferred
- Certified as Asbestos Supervisor by state of Indiana upon hire.

DemandsThis role requires the ability to remain in a stationary
position as well as the ability to move about the workplace for
long durations. It requires effective communication, the ability to
operate machinery, tools, and controls. The role requires the
ability to ascend/descend ladders/stairs, and to position one's
self in low level positions, detect a variety of chemicals and/or
gases. The role requires the ability to ascend to rooftops and move
in tight spaces to perform and complete inspections. The person in
this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or
