Job Description:
OverviewThe role of a Medical-Surgical Nurse requires you to
take care of adult patients. As a nurse, you will be following the
healthcare plans as directed by the physician. You will be taking
care of patients that have undergone surgery and it includes
round-the-clock care for them.This type of nursing focuses on
caring for patients before and after a surgical procedure. Med surg
nurses are often the last person the patient sees before heading to
the operating room and the first person they see when they get back
to the floor. It's a complicated area that requires a vast range of
knowledge and the desire to help and support patients when they're
dealing with fear, pain, and uncertainty.Med surg nurses care for
patients before and after any medical surgical procedure. In
addition to prepping patients for procedures and answering any
questions they might have, a med surg nurse must also consider how
the patient's underlying health issues will affect their recovery
from any medical surgical procedure.Nurses in the med surg nursing
field must be able to keep up with a fast-paced environment and
have a wide understanding of various health conditions as many
patients have comorbidities.IU Health Bedford is a Critical Access
hospital serving Lawrence and surrounding counties. We are proud to

40 Semi-Private Beds, and cares for a variety of conditions for all
adult patients. The most common conditions treated include stroke,
TIA, diabetes management, pancreatitis, and wound management, and
post-surgical plus much more. Our nursing family consists of Charge
Nurses, Primary Care RN's, Patient Care Assistants, and a Unit
Clerk. We offer a variety of services to our patients including
24/7 Respiratory Care Services, Radiology, Visiting Specialty
Service Consultations, Hospitalist Program, and
Telemedicine.Nursing skills gained through working on this unit
include Stroke Certification and the ability to care for a wide
range of patient conditions. You will gain immense knowledge in a
place you'll be happy to call home. Certification is encouraged and

rotation requiredThe Clinical Nurse reflects the mission, vision,

other regulatory and accreditation standards. The registered
professional clinical nurse (RN) is accountable and responsible for
the provision and coordination of competent, evidence-based care
along the care continuum, which includes assessment, diagnosis,
outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
The clinical nurse participates in decision-making, teaching,
mentoring, and collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to
advance the patient plan of care, achieve outcomes and enhance
operational efficiency. The nurse adheres to the ANA Scope and
Standards of Professional Nursing and the Code of Ethics for Nurses
with Interpretive Statements.Requires an Associates of Nursing
(ASN); Bachelors of Nursing (BSN) preferred.Requires current state
of Indiana license as Registered Nurse.Requires that the RN has
graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.Requires
Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.Other advanced
Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department
specialty according to patient care policies.
