Job Description

Procures specialized items and executes complex buying strategies in accordance with agreed upon material buying plans at the optimum cost, quality and relationship. Conducts complex analysis of sourcing information and presents findings to purchasing and supply chain leadership for process improvement while maintaining high quality product and service delivery.
The objective of this work is to collaborate with the supplier and other resources at Cummins, leading supply recovery and drive past dues to cero. This role also utilizes knowledge in manufacturing technology and product definition & function to achieve this outcome.
Manages, develops, and implements project(s) of varying complexity and size in assigned functional area. Partners with business stakeholders to ensure a successful project completion.
Optional, not required: Category understanding: seals, gaskets and plastic

Major Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Independently procures inventory, supplies, and capital goods and arranges timely deliveries.
Analyzes complex purchasing initiatives and processes in support of the delivery of cost effective and high quality goods and services.
Prepares and presents to senior purchasing/sourcing leadership recommendations of improvement opportunities and alternative courses of action.
Evaluates consistent application of sourcing procedures and processes.
Supports purchasing/sourcing management in activities such as vendor management, industry and market analysis, process analysis, and model building.
Leads analysis projects/initiatives providing coaching to less experienced analysts.
Develop effective relationships with vendors and suppliers favorable for company business.
May manage capacity, delivery and issue resolution projects.
Management and execution of ERs?
Responsible for our most challenging supplier corrective action situations including containment, fault tree analysis / identification of assignable cause, root cause analysis, permanent corrective actions, and overall effectiveness of the problem-solving process.
Collaborates with and leads suppliers to understand and meet all product requirements including compliance with the Cummins Supplier Handbook.
Leads the measurement of supplier delivery performance according to established procedures and is responsible to drive appropriate improvements to meet established targets.
Utilizes Cummins product functional and manufacturing technology knowledge in the execution of their role with suppliers, and represents their assigned suppliers' technical processes and capabilities in internal technical discussions such as Drawing Quality Reviews, manufacturability reviews, etc.
Identifies, tracks, and works with others to resolve project issues.
Monitors and communicates project status to project team.
Manages project risk; uses quality tools to identify areas of risk; works with others on the team and outside the team to identify alternatives or solutions.
Documents and shares team learnings with other teams; draws on other project team experiences to enhance the success of the project.
Maintains project notes, databases, and other records; monitors measures and communicates with Project Sponsor and other stakeholders on status of specific projects and assignments.

Education/Experience:

A College, university, or equivalent degree in supply chain management, engineering, SQIE or a related subject required. - desired: Including team leadership experience

Sourcing process - I understand the steps in the sourcing process; I have developed relationships with my functional stakeholders so that I am now sometimes involved in a project when a business need is identified. I understand the discipline and process associated with industry, market and category analysis; I assimilate the available data to develop performance metrics and create a TCO (total cost of ownership) pricing model. I am capable of analyzing supplier financial risk, using standard resources (such as Dun & Bradstreet reports and other similar tools). I fully engage my functional stakeholders to define the business, technical and qualitative requirements and can accommodate differences in competencies and expectations so that supplier responses may be evaluated objectively.

Purchasing ethics - I understand appropriate and harmless supplier engagements and do not compromise supplier sourcing, selection, or management processes. I am able to apply judgment to potentially questionable relationships and activities and am confident that I make appropriate decisions in each case. I provide consultation / support that conforms to Cummins standards to others in my area but am not knowledgeable outside the countries in which I have worked for at least three years.

Supplier risk analysis - I am familiar with all elements of supplier risk and the tools used to identify and manage those risks. I routinely perform supplier risk analyses, including financial analysis as well as identifying potential supply chain disruptions. I can analyze the data to make important business decisions. I also thoroughly understand the risks inherent in sharing intellectual property. I have implemented pricing strategies to mitigate pricing volatility due to commodities, currency or inflation influences.

VPI - Understand the requirements of VPI as they impact my organization in planning, controlling and assuring product and process quality. (Note: Design for Six Sigma training is a method for learning the tools used in VPI for deliverable achievement.

Supplier contract mgmt - Understand the elements of a supply contracts and have used the contract to clarify the suppliers accountability to the terms and conditions.

Materials agreement knowledge - I have completed at least one materials agreement based on a template provided with significant oversight by my functional director.

Supplier Technical Manufacturing Management - Represents Cummins to our external direct material supply chain by being the technical interface for assuring and improving the supplier's ability to manufacture products that meet the Cummins product definition while meeting the quality expectations defined by Cummins operation(s), their customers, and the requirements of the Cummins Supplier Handbook.

Manages conflict - Handling conflict situations effectively, with a minimum of noise.
Communicates effectively - Developing and delivering multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences.
