(BL-MAA-IUBLA)Department InformationIU Museum of Archaeology and
Anthropology (IUMAA) takes aspects of the former museum and the
Laboratory of Archaeology and combines them into 1 cohesive
experience. With an impactful long-term vision focusing on
purposeful storytelling, stewarding collections, and bringing these
items to communities, the IUMAA thoughtfully houses and displays
over 5 million artifacts that span across a broad range of the
human experience. The IUMAA is accessible for research as well as
teaching and is culturally connected to our broader community
through partnerships with Indigenous communities, advisory boards,
and other IUMAA community members.Job SummaryThe Visitor Services
and Facilities Coordinator (Exhibition Assistant) will support the
sustainability of the museum's facilities and create a welcoming
and inclusive environment for visitors, processing admission, and
tracking operations/admissions data to align with museums
data-driven focus on audience engagement. Support the maintenance
and upkeep of the Museum's physical infrastructure and ensure a
safe visitors and staff.Department Specific Responsibilities
- Welcomes visitors with a warm and friendly demeanor, providing
information about exhibitions, programs, and museum amenities.
- Responds to visitor inquiries, provide directions, and offer
recommendations to enhance their museum experience.
- Manages the front desk area, including answering phone calls,
handling incoming inquiries, and maintaining a neat and organized
reception space.
- Tracks attendance and other data accurately using the museum's
systems.
- Engages with visitors to create a positive and informative
experience, offering insights into exhibitions and artworks.
- Addresses visitor feedback, comments, and concerns with
professionalism and a customer-centric approach.
- Ensures that the museum's facilities and services are
accessible and welcoming to all visitors, including those with
disabilities.
- Provides assistance and accommodation to visitors as
needed.
- Collaborates with the Learning and Community Engagement team to
support museum events, workshops, lectures, and programs.
- Works directly with students, part-time staff, interns,
fellows, and volunteers.
- Sets up and arrange event spaces, assist with guest
registration, and provide logistical support as needed.
- Supports the Operations Manager in coordinating with external
vendors, contractors, and service providers for maintenance and
repair tasks.
- Assists the Operations Manager in overseeing contractors' work
to ensure quality and adherence to safety standards.
- Assists with routine maintenance tasks, including painting,
cleaning, and minor repairs, to ensure the museum's facilities are
well-maintained and visually appealing.
- Monitors and reports any facility issues, damage, or safety
concerns to the Facilities Manager.
- Supports the installation and deinstallation of exhibitions as
assigned by supervisor.[HJ1]
- Ensures that safety protocols are followed throughout the
museum, including fire safety, emergency exits, and evacuation
procedures.
- Monitors security systems and assist with maintaining a secure
and controlled environment.
- Other duties as assigned.General Responsibilities
- Responsible for the maintenance and conservation of artwork and
museum artifacts, including cleaning, reframing, remitting,
reglazing, and building housing.
- Assists with preparation of installation of exhibits and
frequently interacts with other Museum Services staff to determine
scheduling, installation needs, and timeline.
- Maintains workshop, including upkeep and routine inspection and
maintenance of equipment. Repairs or upgrades equipment as
needed.
- Assists with collection management efforts and may assist with
the installation of large projects, performing inventory, and
moving art and museum artifacts.
- Makes ongoing technical and spatial adjustments to exhibits
after initial installation. Ensures proper condition of artwork and
museum artifacts, escalating issues to appropriate staff as
needed.
- Documents processes; may provide guidance to student or
temporary staff.QualificationsCombinations of related education and

work and the ability to move about for long periods of time. It
also requires good communication skills and the ability to use
tools, operate machinery, and complete construction projects with
precision and accuracy. The ability to move heavy objects, provide
support for heavy objects and perform strenuous labor is required.
