The Media School is committed to building and supporting a diverse, inclusive, and equitable community of students, faculty, and staff. Job SummaryDepartmental Responsibilities

  • Provides career services support to undergraduate students and is part of The Media School's student services team, reporting to the Director of Student Services.
  • Supports students pursuing careers in journalism, game design, media production, filmmaking, advertising, social media, and public relations, as well as other career options associated with media studies.
  • Empowers students to make reasoned major/career choices and to develop realistic implementation plans.
  • Coordinates with Media School advancement team to develop and manage an alumni career network to connect current students with alumni working in media industries.
  • Works with faculty and alumni to develop and maintains an understanding of current expectations related to career preparedness and job search procedure specific to individual media industries.
  • Develops, maintains, and shares a library of professional and job search templates and samples for student use, including resumes, reels, portfolios, websites, etc., appropriate for various media industries.
  • Uses a variety of communication platforms, plan events, host small group sessions, and schedule 1:1 sessions to convey career-related information.Increases awareness and promotion of Media School experiential education opportunities.
  • Distributes job and internships information utilizing The Media School website, social media communities, Canvas, and other platforms.
  • In coordination with the communications team, supports social media communities for undergraduate students and alumni in industry-specific areas, as appropriate.
  • Contributes to planning and implementation of Media Career Day, career treks, and other career exploration and education events.
  • Provides training to Walter Center staff regarding Media School-specific job search and career preparation concerns.General Responsibilities
    • Assists with professional and career development of students and alumni through career assessments, exploration, decision-making, goal setting, and planning. Focuses efforts on resume building, interview skill development, mock interview, and job search preparation and navigation; graduate school application and interview preparation through counseling appointments and consultations.
    • Develops and delivers workshops on career development which include networking strategies, interviewing, resume and cover letter writing skills, portfolio development, and using the internet for career search.
    • Supports faculty and students with career exploration, internships, job shadow experiences, presentations, and facilitation of resources available for career development.
    • Serves on various community and institutional committees to build partnerships across the university and among comparable universities to build knowledge base.
    • Assists in the process of collecting and tracking data for office assessment purposes. Utilizes data to assist in the creation of office objectives and goals to meet the needs of the student population.
    • Works through issues with a variety of stakeholders: students, employers, alumni, and faculty. Identifies and capitalizes on connections between groups of stakeholders and leverage those connections in unique ways through events and interactions.
    • May provide guidance and delegate administrative tasks to other career services staff.
    • May make process recommendations for improved operational efficiency.QualificationsCombinations of related education and experience may be considered.                 • Demonstrates project management successWorking Conditions / DemandsThis role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.Work LocationThis position is based in Franklin Hall on the Indiana University Bloomington campus.After a training period of 6 months, this position will be eligible for 1 remote work day per week on a set schedule. Availability of remote work is dependent on school and campus policy, as well as business need.Advertised Salary$50,000-$55,000 annuallyWork HoursPosition requires supporting or managing occasional evening or weekend programs, generally scheduled well in advance.
