SummaryDepartment-Specific Responsibilities
- Maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, installs, and inspects smoke
and fire suppression systems (addressable and non- addressable),
video distribution systems, security and access control systems,
and other low voltage systems using hand/power tools, and
specialized tools and equipment.
- Installs and repairs new and existing security, fire, access
control and similar equipment to determine if equipment is in good
condition.
- Reviews and interprets codes and ordinances and submits
recommended changes to the assistant manager of building
systems.
- Requisitions parts, materials, and supplies.General
Responsibilities
- Installs, repairs, and inspects smoke and fire suppressions
systems; inspects tests, and repairs fire alarm wiring, fire alarm
panels and peripheral equipment. Identifies hazards, defects, and
the need for adjustment or repair.
- Inspects, repairs, or replaces smoke/heat detectors and
sprinkler heads; repairs and tests dry/wet systems; tests fire
alarm systems using appropriate diagnostic programs and
equipment.
- Performs tests on fire pumps and standpipe systems.
- Ensures that work is in accordance with relevant codes.
- Performs other general building maintenance as
assigned.QualificationsEDUCATIONRequired
- High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)WORK
EXPERIENCERequired
- 5 years of Verifiable journey level experience in the
electrical field OR Certificate in DOL apprenticed electrical
tradeLICENSES AND CERTIFICATESRequired
- Valid driver's license and ability to be insured by Indiana

installation, maintenance, and repair of fire and smoke detection
systems and equipment.
- Ability to operate drills, conduit benders, drill presses,
cable pullers, meters (volt, OHM, AMP, Meg), hand drills, hand
tools and power tools.
- Ability to read blueprints and schematics.
- Ability to use diagnostic program and other applicable
diagnostic software and equipment.
- Ability to perform true test smoke detector sensitivity
procedure.
- Ability to perform routine maintenance on equipment and
determine when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
- Ability to work with wide variety of cultures and
backgrounds.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned,
including general building maintenance duties. Drive University
vehicles as needed. Work any shift as needed. 24-hour a day
emergency response as needed. Assist with snow removal activities
as necessary. Must be available to work during inclement weather
(i.e. snow and ice) when weather emergencies dictate that the
department is needed to take care of the campus.Working Conditions
/ DemandsThis role regularly requires the ability to effectively
communicate. This role frequently requires the ability to handle
equipment. This role frequently requires the ability to remain
stationary and ascend/descend ladders/stairs. This role requires
the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. The role
requires the ability to detect items in close proximity as well as
far away; discern between colors; detect objects in peripheral
space of self; discern items in detail; and to have good depth
perception. The person in this role must be able to perform the
