  • Provides creative, strategic and proactive career development related programs and counseling for students.
  • Fosters relationships with employers, alumni, and professional colleagues nationwide and with students individually, in groups, and with school-sponsored organizations.
  • Leads process of collecting, tracking, and reporting employment data for internal assessment and external reporting to the American Bar Association and National Association for Law Placement.
  • Reports to the Assistant Dean of Student Services. General Responsibilities
    • Assists with professional and career development of students and alumni through career assessments, exploration, decision-making, goal setting, and planning. Focuses efforts on resume building, interview skill development, mock interview, and job search preparation and navigation.
    • Assists with graduate school application and interview preparation through counseling appointments and consultations.
    • Develops and delivers workshops on career development which include networking strategies, interviewing, resume and cover letter writing skills, portfolio development, and using the internet for career search.
    • Supports faculty and students with career exploration, internships, job shadow experiences, presentations, and facilitation of resources available for career development.
    • Serves on various community and institutional committees to build partnerships across the university and among comparable universities to build knowledge base.
    • Assists in the process of collecting and tracking data for office assessment purposes.
    • Utilizes data to assist in the creation of office objectives and goals to meet the needs of the student population.
    • Works through issues with a variety of stakeholders: students, employers, alumni, and faculty.
    • Identifies and capitalizes on connections between groups of stakeholders and leverage those connections in unique ways through events and interactions.
    • May provide guidance and delegate administrative tasks to other career services staff.
    • May make process recommendations for improved operational efficiency.QualificationsCombinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education. EDUCATIONRequired
      • Bachelor's degree in business or related field.Preferred
        • Master's degree in related field.
        • Juris Doctor (JD). WORK EXPERIENCERequired
          • 2 years in career consulting or related field.Preferred
            • 3 years of experience in career consulting within higher education, in legal recruiting, law, or a related field.
            • Experience practicing law in a legal setting.
            • Experience working in higher education, ideally with graduate students.SKILLSRequired

              • Ability to interpret career assessments.Working Conditions / DemandsThis role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus.
