Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

As a Commercial Lines Agent, you will experience all aspects of German American's culture and values while working with external customers to provide them with insurance protection for all of the things that they value. A blended learning approach with our company includes internal and external classroom training and certification, along with experiential, hands-on learning where you are able to work alongside seasoned team members to perform meaningful work.

What You'll Do:

  • The Daily Grind - Your focus will be to generate new insurance relationships. For new clients, you will pre-qualify for quality and insurability, obtaining accurate information including completed applications, supplemental questionnaires, surveys and any other pertinent information necessary to provide a proposal.Attention to detail is crucial as you accurately document client files pertaining to coverage discussions, quotes, and/or declinations.You will also review and analyze the needs of current clients, including gaps in coverage and loss exposures, recommending appropriate insurance coverage as identified.You possess a strong desire to serve, creating a sense of urgency and completeness when dealing with clients, agency, and company personnel that results in a minimized potential for errors and omission claims and a retention rate of 95% for the current client base.You will work to increase your client portfolio and improve penetration in the communities we serve through means including, but not limited to, developing sales objectives to meet the projected premium volume and commission goals as established together with the Commercial Sales Manager.Flexing your creativity and relationship building skills, you will establish centers of influence for a solid referral network, generate and maintain prospect and suspect lists, and create leads/referrals from the existing book of business.
    • You're Part of a Team - You are a member of the insurance team which includes supporting our external insurance clients throughout southern Indiana. This role focuses on commercial insurance, and you will also work with your greater insurance team, including personal and employee benefits team members, as well as partners across the bank, investments, and wealth advisory business lines to provide additional services needed.You also represent German American in the community, working toward community development and leadership through involvement in service, civic organizations, and community events and activities.
      • And you have to be able to juggle - Multiple and conflicting priorities will come up under specific time constraints. In concert with your leader and other team members, you have to be quick to act when issues arise.

        What it Takes:
        • Current Indiana Insurance Property & Casualty License or willingness to obtain one at time of hire
        • Strong written and verbal communication skills with keen attention to detail in creating professional presentations
        • Ability to: Be a self-starter, build business and personal relationships through strong interpersonal skills
        • Responsible for adhering to compliance laws, regulations, and established Bank policies and procedures, including Bank Secrecy Act and Anti-Money Laundering
          Bonus Points:
          • Prior experience in the insurance industry
          • Associate's College degree in related field of study
          • Proven track record in selling, negotiating, building relationships and cross selling.
