Job Description Job Title: Nutritionist – Remote Position Position Summary Midwestern Pet Foods, Inc., a family-owned company with a proud legacy of producing high-quality pet food since the 1940s, is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Nutritionist. This role is vital to our mission of delivering high-quality, results-driven pet food that pet owners trust and pets love. Key Responsibilities · Develop and formulate AAFCO- and state-compliant recipes that are nutritious, safe, and appealing to pets. · Uphold and enhance our long-standing commitment to producing safe, healthy, and delicious pet food. · Serve in a strategic leadership capacity reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer. · Ensure all recipes meet internal quality standards and product specifications. · Stay current with scientific and technical advancements in companion animal nutrition. · Evaluate emerging ingredients, nutritional technologies, and scientific advancements to inform product development and long-term innovation. · Maintain accurate documentation to support product label compliance, feeding guidelines, nutritional adequacy statements, and marketing claims. · Participate in feeding trials and related research, ensuring data collection, analysis and application of findings to improved program outcomes. · Collaborate with Purchasing and Quality Assurance teams to ensure ingredient quality and nutritional integrity. · Support the Consumer Service team by providing expert, professional responses to customer inquiries. · Partner with Marketing and Sales teams to share nutritional insights that support product positioning and sales growth. · Build, maintain, and strengthen relationships with third-party nutrition partners, research organizations, vendors, and other subject matter experts to support program success. · Drive long term innovation by identifying opportunities, and strategic priorities related to nutrition programs and aligning with organizational objectives. · Travel up to 10% as needed for business purposes. Qualifications · Master of Science in Animal Nutrition (Companion Animal Nutrition strongly preferred). · Deep understanding of canine and feline nutrition and related scientific disciplines. · Ability to operate with a high level of autonomy, including authority to develop, recommend and execute strategic initiatives. · Proven experience in developing pet food formulations. · Familiarity with dry food manufacturing processes and operations. · Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. · Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. · Self-motivated, collaborative, and capable of working independently.
